Meal Kits as a Marketing Tool
Meal kits from restaurants gained immense popularity during lockdowns and I really hope they stick around now that things are open again. They are a fantastic marketing tool that I feel will be a great one to have over the long run. Here’s why:
People Will Focus on Takeout Again
Right now, people are excited to be out and around other people again, so they are dining in restaurants more than they are getting takeout. When school starts and people are back commuting into the office, takeout will become an easy solution again. I personally loved the ability to get a meal kit for a more relaxed date night from some of the more upscale restaurants. It still felt special compared to cheaper takeout, but still gave the ability to relax at home and watch a movie.
People Love Value
If you package and price your meal kit correctly, people will feel like they are getting a great deal. People love a great deal. Create the feeling of value and you will certainly succeed.
Make People Feel Special
You don’t need to offer multiple meal kits for people a la COVID shutdowns, but offering one or two options and adjusting based on customer desires is fine. If you make your meal kit a little more unique, however, people will get excited about purchasing from you. Maybe you are advertising a family-style meal kit and it includes something fun for the kids or you might be a French restaurant that has a Spotify playlist of French music to play while people enjoy their meal (easily accessible via QR code that comes with their meal kit)
Alcohol Can Remain
California announced that the ability to offer alcohol with food takeout will stick around through at least the end of the year. This is a great way to increase margins on your meal kits to keep them profitable. It also allows you to switch up your meal kits and make them fun depending on the season or holiday.
