Why You Should Participate in Corporate Gifting
Corporate gifting around the holidays is by no means a new concept. So why participate in corporate gifting? These days, kind gestures are few and far between as people are more disconnected than ever before. A sentimental reminder that you value a relationship can do wonders for connections in business.
Gifting for Service vs Product-based Businesses
Serviced-based businesses should be gifting to all of their recurring customers and referral sources. For hospitality businesses where there are a lot of recurring customers, sticking to vendors and “top customers” (wine club members and people who regularly book events with the business) is key. Product-based businesses should limit gifting to top clients, influencers that regularly engage with their brand and vendors.
Types of Gifts
Avoid only gifting swag or tchotchkes. These will likely not get used and just get donated or tossed. Get more creative and put your swag into a kit if needed (ex. I once received a branded Yeti tumbler, but it had a packet of hot cocoa and a mini bottle of peppermint Schnapps with a personalized note about getting through the “end of year push” in the investment industry).
Make sure your gift ties into your business, brand, or audience well to create a memorable experience for customers. For example, if you’re an interior designer, sending a candle and a throw blanket or some small home decor items will go a long way. Another great gift is a subscription service or a “gift that keeps on giving”. This way you are increasing your likelihood of being remembered over a longer time period.
Do’s and Don’ts
Adding a personal note always goes a long way. Whatever you do, please make sure all names are spelled correctly and that nicknames are correct. If you are packaging the gifts yourself, make sure that you are not packaging things haphazardly. Gifts should be packaged equally if not more beautifully than your regular packaging. Lastly, do not wait until the last minute. Vendors often will have deadlines for bulk and larger orders in order to get them out on time.
In an overly digital world, I strongly believe it’s important to keep the tradition of corporate gifting alive. In fact, I’m partnering with Ohm Coffee Roasters on their holiday gifting campaign. Most people love coffee and what a great way to have people be reminded of your business than to have them think of you every time they make a cup. If you’re interested in finding out about the offerings from Ohm Coffee Roasters, get in touch and I’ll send you a pricing sheet. If you’re interested in having me plan your holiday or gifting campaign for next year, you can book a complimentary consultation to plan ahead.
